In A Little Tale of Great Madness (Klein verhaal van een grote gekte), we meet Manu, a young Dutchman of Spanish descent who lives in Den Bosch, in the Netherlands. Manu travels to Galicia to see his grandmother, and there, surrounded by liquor and pilgrims, in the mystical darkness of night, Manu thinks about his past - and his great, lost love, Conchita.
What is it that so preoccupies him?
What exactly happened that night in Madrid, and why does Conchita still haunt him? And who is the author of that mysterious old diary, written in 1939, which Manu's grandmother gives him and which contains intriguing, but also shocking observations on the Spanish Civil War? Little by little the tale unfolds: the story of Manuís life, his family, Spain, and above all, his great, all-embracing love for Conchita.
