Miljenko Jergovic was born in Sarajevo on May 28, 1966. A poet and journalist, he writes for the daily Oslobodjenje newspaper. Jergovic has established himself as a writer in both Bosnia and Croatia - he is one of the most widely read and translated writers of the younger generation in that region - and his stories and novels have been translated into more than 20 languages. Critics have praised his storytelling skills, his ability to create a compelling atmosphere, his lyricism and sentimentality, his immersion in history and his ability to incorporate tradition into contemporary prose.
Miljenko Jergovic has lived and worked in Zagreb since 1993.
