You are about to enter the site. Look around, lose your way, find it again - and lose it again. If you're not the playful type, go directly to The Ledge Files (HTML), where the world is more orderly.
Under the FAQ button (in Flash) are the most frequently-asked-questions to date. If you have a new question, send it to and we'll try and help.
In the meantime, we'll keep on reading and typing and translating.

the ledge

The Ledge is an independent platform for literature from around the world. At the heart of the site, to get you in the mood, is a series of interviews with authors, translators and literary critics. There is also a built-in, ever-expanding reading guide and a listing of literary events.

literary news:
David Sedaris on The Ledge
David Sedaris and his 'modest bestiary,' Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk. Check the list of interviews on the left of your screen, you'll find Sedaris in The Subway. For all who enter through the Flash-site, a surprise awaits you: Sedaris himself reading the romantic title story, the tale of two star-crossed rodents and their musical misunderstanding.
Note: for those of you who are new to the site, a few remarks: the Flash version of The Ledge, although sometimes problematic, is more interesting than the HTML 'The Ledge Files': in Flash you can listen to audio and make things (not the author) move around. But if you haven't got time for all that, HTML is certainly convenient.
